Investing in Potential, One Learner at a Time
In many parts of Kenya, talented and driven students are forced to drop out of school—not because of poor performance, but because they simply cannot afford tuition, uniforms, transport, or lunch.
We provide comprehensive scholarship packages that support students from primary to post-secondary levels. Priority is given to orphans, children from low-income or rural families, and girls at risk of early dropout. We also offer mentorship and psycho-social support to help recipients not only stay in school, but thrive.
To date, our scholarships have supported over 1,500 students across 12 counties.
Creating Safe, Inclusive Spaces for Learning
No child should have to learn under a tree, in a crumbling mud-walled structure, or without basic learning materials. That’s why Elara leads the construction and renovation of schools in under-served communities.
We build permanent classrooms, libraries, sanitation blocks, and computer labs—ensuring students and teachers have access to safe, functional, and inspiring spaces to teach and learn. We also equip schools with books, desks, blackboards, and digital devices.
Our infrastructure projects are community-driven, employing local labor and involving parents, teachers, and local leaders from start to finish.
Over 20 classrooms and 8 libraries built or rehabilitated since 2016.
Empowering Adults with Second Chances
In Kenya, over 5 million adults lack basic literacy and numeracy skills, limiting their ability to participate in the economy or support their children’s learning.
Our Adult Education Program provides flexible learning opportunities for adults who left school early due to poverty, early marriage, or displacement. Through evening classes, weekend sessions, and mobile learning platforms, we offer literacy, numeracy, digital skills, financial literacy, and entrepreneurship training.
We also partner with local employers and training institutions to support adult learners in gaining certifications that boost their employability and self-reliance.
Our adult learners range from age 18 to 65—and many go on to start businesses or mentor others in their community.
Changing Systems, Not Just Situations
We don’t just respond to gaps—we advocate for lasting change. Elara Education Foundation works with local education offices, national government agencies, and civil society to influence policies that promote equity, inclusion, and investment in public education.
We conduct community education forums, participate in national education policy consultations, and lead campaigns on girls’ education, anti-FGM education access, inclusive curricula, and budget transparency.
We also work with school boards and parent associations to promote rights-based education and ensure that every stakeholder—especially in marginalized communities—has a voice.
Elara has contributed to 5 county-level education strategies and was a leading voice in the “Education for All” coalition in 2023.
Bridging the Digital Divide for Underserved Learners
As the world moves online, many learners in Kenya are left behind due to lack of devices, internet, or digital skills. Elara Education Foundation is solving this gap by integrating edtech into rural classrooms and adult education programs.
We supply tablets, laptops, projectors, and solar-powered WiFi kits to partner schools and learning centers. We also train students and teachers to use these tools effectively, and work with partners to develop localized digital content aligned with the national curriculum.
Our goal is to ensure that no learner is excluded from the digital economy—whether they’re in a remote village or an informal urban settlement.
Over 700 learners now access digital learning through Elara-supported platforms.
Help us reach children, youth and adults who have been left behind!
